Lance never answers the phone when Lynn calls him.

Well, actually, it's when Justin's house calls him. Because it's Justin's estate -- it's called 'the estate' in his head because all Justin took with him was a million dollars, some spindly furniture and the contents of his home studio. When Lynn came back to the house after the two month nightmare in Orlando, she found a bookcase, two chairs, and all the recording equipment missing. She never called the police because the alarm was reset and the door locked. She got the L.A. house, and most of the money, and his savings account goes to the upkeep of her and the house and everything else.

Like Justin is on some extended vacation and she's only house sitting.

The call display, therefore, still says 'J. Timberlake'. It's one of two times Lance sees Justin's name in print, and the other is on the monthly statements that Jive Entertainment sends his attorney.

Lynn calls whenever she finds another of their awards buried in Justin's house, hidden in his sock drawer or behind the furnace. It's like Justin's sent his mother on some extended scavenger hunt, and every time she gets closer to the end, another trophy, Lynn weeps. Lance used to answer the phone, listen to Lynn while she cried. He used to clean something -- the dishes, the carpets -- while she cried, too.

But now he has a cleaning service, so he lets the phone ring. Lynn'll call JC
